About DSL |
|
| What
is DSL? |
| The abbreviation DSL stands for "Digital Subscriber
Line". It's a high-speed "always-on" connection that works over
your existing telephone line while not interfering with
regular calls.
There are two parts to a DSL connection:
- ISP (Dependanet) - Controls the connection
and routes you to the internet. Also responsible for
your email and most of your support.
- Line and Circuit Provider (Qwest) - Adds the
service to your phone line, connects your physical
line to your location and provisions your speed.
Dependanet bills you ONLY for the ISP portion. Qwest
bills you for the DSL Circuit (line) and generally adds
the charge to your current phone bill. Qwest prices will
vary depending on the line speed you choose.

|
| How
does DSL work? |
| Your telephone line is setup by Qwest to send and
receive digital information and voice calls
simultaneously. Your computer can send and receive data
across your phone line at high speeds while talking to
friends and family or conducting business at the same
time. |
|
| Why
use DSL instead of Cable? |
| DSL is a dedicated secure line which means you don't share
your connection and bandwidth with your neighbors. Cable is a shared
connection and why during heavy usage times (peak hours)
when everyone in your neighborhood is online, your
connection speed will slow down. |
|
| Can
I get DSL? |

locations:

Qualification for DSL is determined by the distance
your home or office is located from the Qwest main office
in your area. To determine whether or not your phone line
qualifies for DSL service, you can call our office or fill
out the DSL Pre-Qualification form (no obligation).

| Do
I need special equipment? |
| Yes. A DSL modem. While you can purchase these modems
from stores such as Best Buy or other electronics outlets,
we suggest that you simply purchase it from Qwest. They will ship the modem
directly to you after we place your DSL installation order. |
